Yes, we welcome and encourage our members to sign-up for internal and external competitions. We have a range of internal competitions open to all members including mixed pairs, open, handicap and plate knockout cups and a season-long ladder competition. NB - if you join as a Playing Member, you will automatically be entered into the Open and Handicap competitions unless you opt out. We also play in some north London competitions against other clubs, both home and away.
Absolutely! At Muswell Hill Bowls Club, we understand that starting a new game can come with its challenges, and we're here to support you. We have experienced club members who are more than willing to provide one-to-one coaching to help you become acquainted with the game and feel confident on the green. There are regular coaching sessions at the Club, currently on Wednesday mornings from 10:30am. Also, arranging for a personal coaching session is easy - just turn up to one of the open days or evenings and ask!
The Muswell Hill Bowls Club season starts in Mid April (weather permitting) and ends in September. The Calendar for 2026 is published in the Info for Members.
Members of all categories participate in the sport of lawn bowling. Normally this means playing lawn bowls whether competitively or not, though other means of participation, such as refereeing or marking and other relevant volunteer activities are also recognised as essential contributions to the sport. All members are entitled to the following benefits:

A Full (Continuing) Playing Member must be over 18 and in their second or subsequent year of membership, and is entitled to the following additional benefits:
Full (Introductory) Playing Members receive a discount on their subscription in their first full year of membership - that is further reduced if you join too late in the year to take part in the club competitions - see rates below.
Only Full members who have been briefed on security and health and safety matters (locking up, electric fence switches, etc) and protection of the green (eg, sweeping worm casts before play) may open up the Club and the bowling rinks.
Only Full (Continuing) Members will be members of the Muswell Hill Bowls Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation, eligible to vote for or to be Trustees of the Charity. (Subject to the approval of the Club’s application by the Charity Commission.)
A Junior Playing Member may be aged up to 25 on April 1st in the year of membership, and for a discounted membership subscription is entitled to the benefits of a Full Playing Member, except that:
The Club wishes to encourage applications from partners and spouses of full playing members.
Members support the club through their voluntary activities and active participation in fundraising activities, without which the Club would not be financially sustainable.
Non-members may participate in the sport of lawn-bowling at the club on a pay-and-play basis (first session free)on Open Days and on weekly Friday evening Open sessions, subject to rink availability
Non-members participating in matches versus Muswell Hill Bowls Club do not normally pay a fee to play
Out-of-town visitors may participate in informal matches, roll-ups, organised by and with Full or Junior members on a pay-and-play basis
Non-members may participate in the sport of lawn-bowling at the club in organised events without payment of an individual fee where the event fee is paid by the organiser.
Access to the Club grounds is now controlled by a combination lock. The code should not be disclosed to non-members.
Keys to the clubhouse are restricted and are available for payment of a deposit (currently £19.99) to those volunteers approved by the Committee with a clear requirement for clubhouse access.
Keys to the additional third lock on the door to the clubhouse used for out of season security are restricted to designated persons approved by the Board of Directors. (In future, if the Charity Commission approves the Club’s application, the approval will be by the Trustee Board).
